AMPLIFY is our career development scheme that supports freelancers from the Global Majority to develop skills in production and/or technical theatre. Our scheme consists of paid mentoring and workplace training opportunities in a range of disciplines that include but are not limited to: sound, lighting, stage management, production management, producing, construction, and any other technical or related areas.

We’re looking to work with people who wish to undertake a career step-change or who feel they’ve hit a ‘glass ceiling.’

Through AMPLIFY, we aim to enrich England’s theatre workforce with confident and highly skilled artists, further build sector leadership and champion perceptions of off-stage career potential within UK theatre.

NOTE: We are no longer taking applications for the remainder of 2023. Sign up to our mailing list if you’d like to me notified when our application window opens.

WHO IT’S FOR

- UK residents aged 18 and over

- Theatre makers working in at least one of the following disciplines: Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Production Management, Producing, Technical areas, Construction

- Theatre makers at any stage in their careers looking to progress in their discipline

- Applications must have at least one professional theatre credit. For us, this means you’ve been paid by a company or venue to work on a theatre production. We also accept working on a production in a fringe or higher education setting (as long as it falls outside mandatory course work)

- We encourage applications from production and/or technical theatre professionals from a Global Majority background* (this includes people of Black Caribbean, Black African, South Asian, East Asian, South East Asian, Middle Eastern, Arab, Latinx, Jewish, Romany and Irish Traveller heritage).

*Tangle’s own experiences and research have identified a widespread need to provide more career development for technical theatre practitioners of UK ethnic minority heritages. AMPLIFY is Tangle’s contribution to diversifying the theatre workforce and we are therefore keen to encourage applicants from the Global Majority to approach us.

HOW IT WORKS

AMPLIFY is bespoke, authentic and responsive to the needs of participants, developing their skills in incremental steps, to a time frame and brief designed by them. Participants will be supported by the mentors who form part of our AMPLIFY community – this is an evolving cohort of sector support organisations, alumni, Associate Artists and leading industry experts.

There are two entry points to the programme:

AMPLIFY alumni who have progressed through stages 1 or 2 will be eligible for:

  1. WORKPLACE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING: Paid work-based placements on Tangle’s touring shows

  2. ONGOING SUPPORT THROUGH THE AMPLIFY COMMUNITY: Opportunity for all beneficiaries to take part in regular meetings, meet mentors, peers and industry colleagues and receive further mentoring and advice when needed

  1. CAPSULE BURSARIES: A ‘capsule’ mentoring session offering one or two hours of time with a selected mentor to start a new process of career development or unlock a specific challenge. Participant fee: £50

  2. STEP CHANGE BURSARIES: A more structured programme helping to overcome a career step change, with mentoring sessions offered over a longer timeframe. Participant fee: £150
