Everything Matters
EVERYTHING MATTERS was an investigative research project produced by Tangle in 2012 and taking place across South West England. The study is still having an impact several years on. EVERYTHING MATTERS captured opinions about African Caribbean theatre, volunteered by 20 theatres and arts organisations across the UK’s largest and most rurally dispersed region, and one of its most mono-cultural areas.
EVERYTHING MATTERS was seen a seminal project propelling and galvanising practical steps undertaken across the region in improving approaches to inclusion and representation. Six identical and broad ranging questions were asked of each participating organisation, regardless of their size, programme, and location. A summary paper from each interview was recorded, and opinions logged in an extensive report. All answers were anonymised, with punctuation neutralised to protect identities. This approach ensured a ‘safe space’ for contributors and promoted a level of honesty in the responses that were collected.
EVERYTHING MATTERS interviews were conducted by Anna Coombs, Oludamilare Emmanuel, Denver Isaac Kudakwashe Mangwiro and Pascale Kasirabo. Special thanks to Giles Croft, Tanuja Amarasuriya, Mark Helyar (Take Art), Ruth Kapadia and Adam Gent (Arts Council England) for their support in developing this project in its initial stages.
